One Day National Seminar organized by DES-MDRC to be held on 07.12.2018 in Evening Studies Auditorium

                                                                                                               ONE DAY NATIONAL SEMINAR

 

Panjab University is committed to the promotion of inter-disciplinary study and research in historical, social, political, economic and literary discourses of Punjab and fervently believes in the multifaceted growth of the Punjabi language, literature and culture in the perspective of modern Indian languages, literatures and society. In this context, Department of Evening Studies - Multi-Disciplinary Research Centre, Panjab University has planned a One Day National Seminar on the topic: Punjab Across the Ages (4000 BC to 1800CE): History, Literature and Socio-Cultural Constructions on 7th December, 2018 at Evening Studies Auditorium, Panjab University. The Seminar aims at tracing the major literary texts, knowledge traditions, historical events, political developments and socio- cultural constructions that shaped the civilizational modes of living and thinking of Punjabi community and society across the ages.

The present seminar will try to scrutinize the four major areas i.e. history, politics, socio-cultural constructions and literary, linguistic and knowledge traditions of Punjab. The effects vis-à-vis influences of the major happenings of the period of around six millenniums (from 4000 BC to 1800 CE) will be studied in this Seminar.  The period under reference will further be classified in three sections as; (a) Vedic era, Mauryan era and Golden era, (b) Early invasions, Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire and (c) Bhakti movement and Guru Period. The sub-themes of the seminar will be as under;

1.    Historical incidents and responses of the people of Punjab.

2.    Major political developments and its consequences.

3.    Socio-cultural constructions/destructions and the practice of making and remaking of cultural patterns.

4.    Languages and literature of Punjab i.e. Lokik and Vedic Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrits and modern Punjabi.

5.       Gyan Granth (texts) and Knowledge traditions of Punjab.

6.       Oral and Folk tradition of Punjab.
