In view of recent decisions of the Government, India is on the cusp of a major financial revolution. Thus, in consonance with the MHRD directives to promote Vittiya Saksharata Abhiyaan (VISAKA) and to make all transactions in Panjab University Campus in digital mode, Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, on 8th December, 2016, addressed all stakeholders, which included senior administrative officers, deans, teachers, students, staff, bank officials and representatives of shopping complex in the Panjab University Campus and highlighted the purpose of Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan to actively engage the students of Panjab University to encourage and motivate all payers and payees to use a digitally enabled cashless economic system for transfer of funds. He issued directives to workout modalities for the implementation of making all kinds of payments in digital mode. A detailed presentation was given. The Vice Chancellor urged faculty members and students to take the lead and act as engines of this transformational shift. To begin with, the faculty, staff and students, who we refer to as Engines of the Change, need to dispel the commonly held belief that digital transactions are complex and necessarily required a smart phone and internet connectivity. They need to further educate their family members and people in their immediate surroundings to make it for digital transaction. Volunteers of our University may take initiative and interact with shopkeepers, vendors, canteen contractors with an objective of developing cashless campus. The Vice Chancellor looks forward to active participation of students, faculty and staff members of our esteemed University in accomplishing this challenging act.
